Images called as built drawings are used in many design and construction projects. These drawings can be used during the project or before and after the project to maintain cost effectiveness and efficiency. The different methods that are used in making as built drawings will result in 2D and 3D pictures. When a project is finished, they are stored as documentation for the project.

Outlines for floors, ceilings, and roofs are instances of two-dimensional as built drawings. There are a variety of tools that can be used to make the precise measurements to ensure that the drawings are to scale. The drawings that are created will then be used to make the layout of the construction design. Throughout the project, workers will continuously go back to the as built drawings as a reference.

The most commonly used pictures for outdoor settings are the three-dimensional depictions. The elevation of the land and its differences are measured with a variety of equipment before the construction project is started. The 3D model shows how the finished construction project will appear as well as how the present structures ...
... and terrain look.

For three dimensional imaging, GPS and ground-penetrating radar are two of the most frequently used methods. The GPS will utilize coordinates to map out how the terrain is laid out. For imaging beneath the ground's surface, ground-penetrating radar is carried out. Both of these can then be used to make an accurate image of what the surface and subsurface levels look like.

High-definition laser scanning is the preferred method for scanning and composing images of the land. Laser scanning is often the most accurate and safest method to use for these types of projects. The high-definition laser scanning equipment can make accurate measurements from one spot unlike the ground penetrating radar which needs to move over the land. Because it can remain in one spot, this makes it the ideal decision for imaging rough and complex terrain. This is the most precise type of imaging device and can make measurements within 6mm of accuracy.

Architecture, design, renovation, and construction projects profit greatly from as built images. These can prove to save them a lot of time and money as well as ensure the safety of their crew and machinery. GPS, ground-penetrating radar, and high-definition laser scanning equipment are all utilized to make accurate two and three-dimensional depictions of the project. These drawings are used before, during, and after the project is finished so that there is an accurate record and reference.
