Girl Awarded Millions In Compensation Over Road Accident

Through their personal injury lawyer, the family of a young girl have been successful in their compensation claim concerning injuries the youngster suffered in a car crash. In 2006, Cerys Edwards, who was 11 months old at the time, was travelling with her parents when the vehicle they were in was hit head-on by a Range Rover being driven by Antonio Singh Boparan.

He was doing more than 70 miles an hour in a 30 mile an hour area and received a prison sentence for his dangerous actions.

As a result of the collision, Cerys suffered severe brain damage and has needed 24-hour care since. As part of this, she requires a ventilator to help her breathe and she has had dozens of operations.

In a recent development, a settlement was reached between Mr Boparan's insurers and the Edwards family, and this was subsequently approved by Judge Martin McKenna at Birmingham's High Court.

Commenting on the case, Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group said: "We would like to express our profound sympathy for the catastrophic injuries suffered by Cerys and for the suffering of her parents."

... comes to nearly £5 million and Cerys's family will also receive payments of £450,000 a year for the rest of her life. The insurance firm had already made interim payments of around £4 million.

According to the family's personal injury lawyer, most of the money awarded will cover past costs they had incurred when they moved home and money they had needed to pay for care.

He added that the family are pleased with the outcome as they know that the youngster's needs will be looked after for the rest of her life. The legal expert went on to state that any parent can imagine that the most worrying thing is thinking about what will happen in the future.
