The softest material ever found on earth is titled Khasto. Khasto is a cotton product found in some parts of India and Nepal. In Nepal, winters have no charm without the use of Khasto shawls which are made by sandwiching three layers of cotton which makes it comfortable as well as helps in trapping the warmth inside and keeping us warm during winters.
The origins of the Khasto cotton dates back to the nineteenth century Nepal where once the daughter of the raja of Nepal visited Benares. She saw the women doing customary block printing there. She liked the beautiful block printing and the idea behind it but one thing she was not able to solve. As the block printing was done with single cloth, it could not trap warmth and was not sufficient for the winters of Nepal on products like nightshirt and pajamas, also known as the Dutch Nachthemd and Dames Pyjama.
So she found a good way to this, she came up with a brilliant idea. She thought of weaving two more cloths together with the block print, making the cloth three layered which then would be comfortable and sufficiently thick enough to provide the warmth in winter. ...
... With this technique not only did the block printing have a new look to it but also it gave a royal and privileged status to whosoever wore it.
So as described above the Khasto cotton consists of three fine layers of cotton in which the middle layer is sometimes printed or left unprinted. If the middle cloth is printed, the color then becomes visible through the other outer layers of the fabric.
If the middle layer fabric is left unprinted, the Khasto cloth feels remarkably soft. This provides a comfortable fit as well as it provides glamour to the person who is wearing it.
