Cpap Machines And Obstructive Sleep Apnea

CPAP stands for Continuous Positive Airway Pressure. CPAP therapy and the use of a CPAP machine is currently the healthcare industry’s standard approach when treating a patient diagnosed with OSA.OSA is an acronym for Obstructive Sleep Apnea, which is a condition wherein the muscles and the tissues in a person’s throat are too relaxed during sleep. The subsequent blockage of the airway impedes flow to the bronchi and lungs. OSA quite literally leaves you gasping for air. Sleep apnea machines make it possible for people to breathe much more easily during sleep, and drastically minimize the dangers that accompany OSA by providing positive pressure on the airway and making sure the airway does not close.
Failure to comply with CPAP therapy by not using the CPAP machine in the method prescribed is a risky proposition. It is important to remember that obstructive sleep apnea is not just a predisposition toward snoring. Several studies have demonstrated that an untreated case of obstructive sleep apnea is potentially fatal, and more often than not, will result in the onset of other serious health issues. ...
... One such study found that nearly fifty percent of those using CPAP therapy who fell into a habit of non-compliance with use of their sleep apnea machines established the non-compliance pattern very early on in their prescribed regimen.
For some, CPAP machines could be uncomfortable in the beginning since the new patient has to adjust to the necessity of sleeping with a mask on their face. Most often, however, a person will become accustomed to a new CPAP machine just like any other newly implemented medical treatment. It’s important to understand that the sleep apnea machine is used to help not hinder quality sleep. The best possible way to ensure compliance with prescribed CPAP machine use is for highly qualified experts to introduce the CPAP therapy. Additionally, it’s helpful to have a support network of experts, family and friends to assist and encourage CPAP therapy compliance.
Education is also a very important component of CPAP therapy. Using a CPAP machine might be slightly disconcerting at first. Make a point to stay well informed and knowledgeable about CPAP treatment. Consulting with an expert on CPAP therapy will ease any hesitancy to continue moving forward. If the CPAP machine or CPAP mask is not correct or is uncomfortable, there are many options available. Finally, it isn’t easy to cope with any lifelong affliction, let alone COPD, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic pneumonia, or Sarcoidosis. Don’t try to do it alone. If you find that you need to use a CPAP machine, research all of your options with your doctor’s help, and include your family and friends in the process.
