Hector Sants Quitting Fsa Due To Persisting Banking Crises

According to a spokeswoman Sants would go on six months of "gardening leave" from June onwards. The two new regulatory bodies are taking place of FSA after it was blamed during the 2007-2008 financial crises for not spotting major flaws at UK banks, such as Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS.L) and Lloyds (LLOY.L), which ended up being rescued with 66 billion pounds of taxpayers' money. As per some analysis Sants' departure put the FSA in a difficult position, and creates uncertainty in the City of London financial district about the direction regulation will take.
Hector Sants joined the FSA in May 2004 has decided to quit as the head of FSA watchdog in June, in a move that deals a blow to current arrangements to overhaul the country's system of financial regulation. He had been talked out of quitting two years ago by the U.K. finance minister George Osborne. Hector will leave the organization at the end of June, the FSA said in a statement Friday. News of his departure came as a surprise as he was expected to head a new body overseeing the U.K.'s financial stability and become a deputy governor of the Bank of England when a ...
... new regulatory system comes into force next year. Sants took the helm at the regulator in July 2007, just before the run on the Northern Rock bank, which proved to be the start of Britain's banking crisis.
According to Bank of India "The Bank will work closely with HM Treasury in searching for the first chief executive of the Prudential Regulation Authority who will also be the deputy governor with responsibility for prudential regulation” Andrew Bailey would take over Sants' role in the meantime in running the part of the FSA that will become the PRA. The PRA, which will work under the Bank of England, will be responsible for banking supervision. A new Financial Conduct Authority will also be established to look after markets and consumer protection.
