For many centuries people have been using vine and Virginia creeper in order to enhance the look and feel of brick structures. These vines form roots along with a stem that stick ...
... to the brick or wood which further helps them to grow defy gravity and grow vertically on a wall. But there is a disadvantage of these vines as they can penetrate into the small spaces of the brick and mortar and damage the walls in the process. Another problem arises when you have to remove these vines from the walls because it can be a labor intensive job which is sure to cost you a bomb.

But this doesn’t mean that you cannot afford a green wall anymore because with the advancement in science and technology new ways of maintaining a green wall have crept up. The simplest and most inexpensive method of creating a green wall is to construct a freestanding trellis. A freestanding trellis can be made using wood or metal and it is used by anchoring it to the ground. A distance of around 6-8 inches is maintained between the wall and the trellis.

Before building a green wall or a freestanding structure around buildings you should make sure that it is permitted in your area. Some people use fences as free standing structures but it might require permit in some areas. Another alternative to trellis are cables or coated wires. There are a number of ways of creating green walls and you should always choose the way that suits you the most.
