Scott Hamilton, an American ice skater and a superlative Olympic figure skater, is known for his fancy footwork, the blurring speed of his spins and his trademark back flip. Since February 1997 Scott suffered from back and stomach pains. On March 16 he went to the doctor to find that he had testicular cancer that had spread to the abdomen. On 6/24/1997, he had surgery to remove a cancerous growth on his abdomen in Cleveland, OH. His diagnosis remained positive, and he was expected to return to the ice in September. The treatment at The Cleveland Clinic destroyed the tumor but the fluid-filled cyst that enclosed the growth is still there. Doctors are monitoring his condition hoping that the cyst will dissolve.

On June 23, 2010, Hamilton went into brain surgery to prevent the recurrence of the benign tumor discovered in 2004. Called craniopharyngioma, the tumour could have caused blindness if left untreated. On June 25, 2010 it was reported that Hamilton was resting comfortably in the hospital and was "Doing great".
