Are you tired of the usual birthday dos, of a party or dinner or drinks in a bar? Want something that’s a little bit more of an event? Here are some ideas for how to create something memorable that don’t have to include a terrible hangover.

A picnic. If the weather’s nice enough, get outside with some food and a Frisbee. Get people to bring a dish each perhaps, to cut down on your effort an expense, or you could even do a BBQ in a park if you can find somewhere that will let you.

A golfing competition. Or horseriding, or football. Or whatever it is that you’re into or happens to take your fancy. Buying cheap prizes, printing polo shirts with team names or creating certificates will give your event a personal touch and give guests something to remember it by.

A woodland treasure hunt. Get everyone out and about, running around outside, competing with each other and trying to solve the hunt.
