Bank of India said to have formed by diverse groups of Jews, Hindus, Muslims, and Parsees in 1906, when other Bank of India around that time failed and no longer in existence. It was the first of its kind to promote Indian interest and to serve all communities. Bank of India is one of India’s nationalized banks with its headquarters in Mumbai. It is a commercial bank usually with state owned policies. It is fourth largest bank in India after State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda and Punjab National Bank. Bank of India has 3415 branches with chain of 487 ATMs spread across the country.
The bank recently joined the league of other banks by joining the National Financial Switch (NFS), which enables and allows customers to have access of ease to more than 30,000 ATMs in India. Bank of India is a member of BANCS and Cashtree. The Bank also has 29 branches overseas and it is a founder member of Society for Worldwide Inter Bank Financial Telecommunications (SWIFT), which facilitates and provides provision for healthy and cost effective communication services and financial processing.
