The third quarter of 2007 was a busy period in global markets for technical textiles. In acquisition news, Comvita acquired Medihoney from Capilano for A$6 mn (US$4.9 mn). Lenzing Plastics has taken another step forward in its expansion by acquiring most of the assets of US monofilament plastics maker Glassmaster. Wellman has sold its European business Wellman International—which makes recycled polyester fibres.
In business news, Oerlikon Neumag has relocated its Neumag Denmark air-laid business from Denmark to its headquarters in Neumünster, Germany. Oerlikon Neumag has also signed a cooperation agreement with Elmarco in the field of ultra-lightweight nonwovens. PGI has enhanced its range of flame retardant fabrics, following the introduction of new federal bed safety standards in the USA. In September 2007 Teijin Twaron changed its name to Teijin Aramid.

... Baytubes brand of carbon nanotubes while Lenzing has inaugurated a viscose fibre plant in Nanjing, China. PGI has announced plans to install a state-of-the-art spunbond line in North America. Trevira—part of India's Reliance Group—has been investing in the optimisation of filament yarn production at its site in Guben, Germany. The site manufactures flat and textured polyester filament yarns.
In joint venture news, Tel Rad Cuyo (TRC) and Freudenberg Telas Sin Tejer, both located in Argentina, have launched a new joint venture company for the manufacture of bicomponent fibres. In market news, it has been reported that sales of nanofibres rose to US$43.2 mn in 2006, from US$40.2 mn in 2005, and will reach about US$48.0 mn by the end of 2007.
In product news, Borealis has launched new grades of polyolefin polymers for performance fibres.
