Are you feeling overwhelmed by all the junk in your home? A dumpster rental probably never looked so good? When you have items you don’t know what to do with, you often find a corner of the house to store them in and forget about them; but you can only do that for so long and eventually it’s time to “clean house”. In some cases, you’ll need to rent a dumpster or mini-bin. Everyone has these items: items that aren’t garbage, which are still good but you can’t use them and you can’t find anybody else who wants them either. At some point you get too many of these items and you need to get rid of them. You need to make a clean start and discover just how large your home really is. But in order to dump the junk, you’ve got to get organized. Here are 4 tips to get your junk organized relatively painlessly:
1. Get a dumpster rental. A good first step is to Rent Garbage Bin or mini-bin. Pick a day on the calendar when you want your bin to be delivered, and then call and book it. Once it’s scheduled, you’re committed and there’s no turning back. Now your chances of completing the task at hand have ...
... dramatically increased.
2. Make sure that the dumpster rental is positioned appropriately in your yard. One thing that many people don’t think about when they rent a dumpster is the placement of it. When considering placement of your dumpster, be sure it’s easily accessible; easy to toss things into and easy to access from your home without too many steps or obstacles. You also need to make sure that you are not violating any bylaws or local ordinances. Finally, keep it visible so you stay focused on the task at hand. When it’s out of sight, it’s out of mind.
3. Pick a part of the house, and then start by pulling everything out. For example, if you’ve decided to empty the attic, remove everything from the attic and then start to sort it out. If it’s junk (and most of it probably is), just toss it right in the bin and don’t look back. You are less likely to return items once removed and will do a more thorough job this way. This is the time to be ruthless. You’ve got a dumpster rental ready to take it all. If you don’t need it or don’t use it, get rid of it. If you haven’t seen in years and haven’t been looking for it, you can live without it.
4. Create a plan for organization. When you do start putting things back into the space where all of that junk has collected, make sure that you take the time to organize them. Put Christmas decorations all in one place and make a separate area for each type of item. This will make it much easier to find these items when it is time to take them out again. It will also make clearing out the attic a whole lot simpler the next time.
