Diagnosis: Adventure Junkie
Suffering from an itching urge to feel that exhilarating pump of adrenaline? Craving for that rush of cold air
against your face?
Yes? Then you’re most definitely not crazy or suffering from some unknown morning sickness. The diagnosis is, you’re
an adventure junkie.
Here’s your cure: presenting you the top 3 adventure sports from around the world and where to try them.
Mountain trekking:
I’m not talking about weekend trips up a hillock in your locality. This is about serious High Mountain trekking and
one country you can’t miss when it comes to that.
Nepal is home to the world’s highest peak, Mt. Everest precisely 29,029 ft above sea level. Most trek routes to the
big E include a trip to the popular Sherpa capital, Namche Bazaar
where you get to explore the novel Sherpa culture, the river Dudh Koshi an extremely white water river flowing down
a scenic gorge (not suited for water sports. Please don’t try kayaking
here if you’re not mildly insane) and an ancient Buddhist monastery with a preserved Yeti skull. Because the
trekking ...
... is pretty darn strenuous, not to mention up the mountain with a fancy
number for an altitude, it’s safe to lodge in over night if you’re a novice or better yet, hire a guide.
Skiing/Snow boarding:
For most of us snow starved idiots, watching people slide off an excessively white surface at great speed would
look smooth and easy.
On Digital TV. If it’s your first time trying either skiing or snowboarding be prepared for unavoidable bruises and
uncanny klutziness. Mammoth Mountain is a lava dome complex in
California. Located near this is a national monument called Devil’s Postpile which is a columnar basalt formation
and Rainbow falls where rainbows appear and stay throughout sunny
days in summer. This particular mountain receives an unusually large amount of snowfall every year and last in 2011
it recorded 661 inches of pure, pristine, white snow. It also has a
lovely 3,100ft elevation and about 28 lifts making it a perfect spot for uninterrupted skiing. Doesn’t matter if you
don’t possess ski legs. This trip will be worth the après.
Snorkelling:
I know how it feels to be jealous of gloating scuba divers raiding the rich marine treasures in the bluest depths of
the sea. Scuba diving requires a lot of careful training that most of us don’t
have the time or opportunity to undergo. Fretting over these facts won’t get you underwater. Go snorkeling! The
biggest island country in the Pacific offers many large, fringing reefs full of
beaming corals, and supernal creatures of the seas. Australia’s largest reef is the Ningaloo marine park and was
named a World Heritage site in 2011. It gets searing hot in the summer
temperature touching 45 deg C, you don’t have to spend money on a wet suit. Although, popular for whale sharks the
reef is part of the migratory routes for dolphins, dugongs,
humpback whales and manta rays. The native marine life in the reef include over 250 types of coral, 500 fish
species, and turtles. Astounding beauty, what you see is what you get.
There you go readers, the top 3 heady sports on my list. Now, for all of you shaking your heads going ‘been there,
done that’. Stop right now. You look ridiculous. Here are some of the new and hybrid sports of the recent years:
Dune Bashing: Exploring the dunes in an all terrain SUV in some deserts of Dubai.
It can be very uncomfortable to some, scary to many and completely euphoric to few, provided
they’re driving the SUV.
Parkouring: Basically running around concerting obstacles and using walls, stairs and other inanimate things
as elevation.
You can do this in the London subway station or a Parkour dojo in Japan.
Speed flying: It combines all the techniques and elements of skiing, parachuting and paragliding. Imagine a
man in a ski suit (parka, skis and all) holding a glider resembling
parachute ready to glide of a mountain.
Not to sound too sappy, but, go on and get out explore the magical bundles of nature that mother earth has to offer.
If you’re too good at being responsible and busy or excellent at procrastinating things into the never arriving
tomorrow, you can always watch it on TV. With offers on cable TV going on like the Charter deals, it's pretty
inexepnsive too.
