4 Gb Is The New File Size-limit To Submit An App On Android Market. -good News For Android Developer
Android app developers have seen hard time earlier when they had to finish the development of an app to 50MB file size. In that case, if there was an application larger than the limit, developers had to put remaining files on their server. This concept had its own problems because users stayed uninformed about the actual application size before downloading it. Also, the 15 minute refund period limit was often got over because the app’s limit used to begin as soon as the app was downloaded from the Market while remaining files took extra time to get downloaded from the developer’s server.
But now, Google Android Market allows developers to submit applications up to 4 GB file size limit. The restriction to original APK will still be 50MB as it was before this decision but now developers can attach 2 expansion files (each 2GB) on Android Market’s servers. It was previously not possible.
Google took this decision to provide convenience to developers as well as to bring transparency in application buying and downloading procedure. Now users will also be able to see the actual file size and extension files before ...
... downloading or purchasing an app.
This is good news for both Android app developers and Android users. Developers now have freedom to develop high quality application without bothering about the file size limit. This decision by Google also allows developers to add bulky 3D and HD contents in application development. Developers can now work on truly high quality Android game development without cutting the corners to meet earlier file size limit. Other benefit of this move is that the developers will now be able to host their extra files on Google servers which are obviously faster than any servers. This will help users rapidly install an application in their devices and the 15 minutes’ limit of refunding app will not start until the complete app is installed in user’s device. Also, the download and update can run in background that was not possible prior to this method. Using Wi-Fi or 3G data connection is recommended to download large apps but in case user moves out Wi-Fi’s range area, the download will automatically be paused.
This new system has one more advantage as well. When application requires updates, users will not need to download the entire file again. Google has freed developers to use the expansion files the way they want. But, Google suggested that developers should use both expansion files strategically – an expansion file for putting the important data that does not require any chance and an expansion file for updatable data. By this strategy, developers will only need to modify a single file for sending updates to users. This method has now made the process of Android application development smarter than ever before.
