Maintaining A Healthy Weight After Bariatric Surgery

Enough has been said about weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. However, for those who are more than 45 kgs overweight, weight loss surgery is the only option. Where diet and exercise fail, knives prevail. Those who believe in this adage, have got done their bariatric surgery in India and are living happily. But that is not all about it. There is more to this entire exercise than what meets the eye.
It is true that barring the natural, whenever we go for something, which is scientific and plastic, our body clock changes and many complications arise. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is another form of bariatric surgery in India in which the stomach volume is reduced to promote weight loss. Even though doctors and surgeons claim that this procedure is completely safe and devoid of any side effects, there are still a few things, rather a few necessary steps that need to be followed in order to maintain the weight that one has newly acquired.
1) Portion control – first and most important precaution to take is to control food [portions that one eats. It is a must. After a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery, ...
... the pouch is stapled and reduced to less than half of its original size. This will directly affect ones eating capability; however, if one does not practice any psychological control over what they are eating, then the weight loss might not last long.
2) Reduced food association – we humans generally tend to depend on food. We build associations around certain food items, which are extremely harmful to health. For example, sorrow, sadness is associated with having ice cream and sweets. Spicy and punchy food is associated with celebration and eating only salad and vegetables is considered dieting.
Break all these inhibitions and try to have your own food associations that are built around healthy eating. Do no go for parties and social gatherings if you think you may end up overeating by force. Always tell yourself that you want to maintain your weight loss regimen.
3) Exercise – yes, exercise is necessary after your surgery too. There is no better way to maintain healthy weight than exercising. You can start with some mild and light exercises like brisk walking and meditation then gradually move to jogging, yoga and other forms of exercise. Remember, the best way to keep you happy is to exercise and stay active. Small things like taking the staircase instead of the elevator is also considered a form of exercise.
