Basic Information About Dental Veneers

Dental veneers is a term used to describe a special type of thin tooth-like shell which is made of special materials such as ceramic that can be applied over the surface of cracked or chipped teeth which many ruin the aesthetics of a person's oral cavity. Veneers are categorized under cosmetic dentistry because they are used to produce perfectly aligned teeth and at the same time provide a natural look. The technology and materials used in veneers has been greatly improved compared to past versions of them.
Veneers have been used to correct several oral cosmetic deficiencies such as:
Misaligned teeth:
It is very common for some people to be born with a spacing between their teeth, such problem may become even more noticeable as they grow older, in such cases the use of these reshaping shells is a great solution.
Worn Enamel:
Enamel is the white substance which covers our teeth, the substance may decay naturally as a person grows older however, most of the time the reason for the Enamel to be compromised can be attributed to a person's eating and drinking habits, certain soft drinks, coffee, ...
... tea, smoking are always known to be common factors which produce accelerated decay of enamel.
Natural decay:
It is very common for a persons teeth to become discolored and wear down according to the persons age, this being the case it is not uncommon for teeth to get chipped and cracked, the use of veneers can effectively correct the appearance of worn out teeth.
There are two basic materials which are used to manufacture veneers these can be composite materials as well as porcelain, both of these veneers can be fabricated by a dental technician in a laboratory however, one of the differences between the two is that those which are made of composite materials can be directly fabricated inside of a person's mouth in order to be shaped and adjusted as needed. Yet another difference between the two is that the ones made of porcelain tend to last a lot longer than those made of composite materials which is why they are more expensive.
