Why Reproduction Furniture Is Better Than The Real Thing
Unlike other types of replica item, such as works of art or coins, reproduction furniture is viewed as less of an attempt to deceive or imitate, and more of an honest tribute to a particular period or designer. The furniture created by some designers or historical eras is valued so much for its aesthetic qualities that consumers appreciate reproductions as much as the classics. It is unarguable that an often prohibitive price-tag is the main concern driving consumers away from an authentic work; however, it remains that several additional factors drive consumers to purchase a secondary copy.
If a certain piece of furniture simply no longer exists on the secondary market, reproduction furniture is usually the last option. Whether due to political or cultural factors, many classical periods are underrepresented when it comes to the availability of furniture or other contemporary artifacts. Regrettably for private collectors, what usually occurs is that the few remaining relics of specific epochs end up on display in museums based or other public venues.
Additionally, reproduction furniture can be specifically ...
... constructed for a modern audience, thus removing previous design flaws. As the years tick away, even the most carefully maintained museum pieces will eventually give in to the pull of gravity and other natural forces, weakening the integrity of any original piece. Unfortunately, things were just not as large in the past, resulting in many owners or their newer furniture looking comically small when compared to an original piece. For the most part, it is a straightforward matter for a reproduction piece to have its measurements and durability increased yet still accurately reflect the visual nature of the antique version.
Enjoying a piece of reproduction furniture is just typically not as mentally taxing as owning a piece of history, as anyone who has ever owned an antique or possessed a family heirloom can attest. While lots of people have countless expensive items in their household, in the form of electronics or jewelry, none of these items are as irreplaceable as an antique item. Additionally, fragile valuables are generally kept in a location that minimizes their exposure to damage; furniture however enjoys no such luxury when it comes to protection.
Like any tailor made item, reproduction furniture offers its owner the capability to make a virtually limitless number of modifications to its functionality and design scheme. Naturally, a vast majority of furniture was not constructed with electronic factors in mind. Since most people are gadget mad, they expect everything, even their reproduction pieces, to offer integration capabilities and compatibility options. A living room featuring a rocking chair based on a hundred year old design is not enough for some people; they just can't live without the same chair also having built-in Bluetooth integration.
