A Vacation At Montenegro Will Be Fulfilling And Quite Unforgettable

Montenegro is unquestionably one of the most interesting and exciting destinations for a vacation. A small nation with a geographic area of 14000 km2 and a population of about 700,000, it has made great contributions to the world’s culture and heritage. With a mixture of cultures and religions that flourished here, like Christianity, Islam, Illyrian, Byzantine, Turkish and Slav each has made sure to have left behind a mark of its own.
It was called by different names at different times like Prevalis during the Latin era, Zeta and Crna Gora or Montenegro. Today, it is a nation of diverse cultures that stand united as one nation. There are many myths associated with the name. Some say that it was named so as it was known to bring bad luck to anyone trying to conquer it. However history records that the name was given by the founders of the state, the dynasty of Crnojevic along with the dynasty of Petrovic who were the true founders of this small and beautiful Mediterranean country.
It is a south European country that faces the southern part of the Adriatic Sea. Hardly 500 km from Rome and 1,500 from Paris, it lies ...
... in the Balkan Peninsula in the heart of Europe. Though it is a small country the climatic variations between the south and the north are extreme and that is one reason that it is called the land of 6 continents. You can soak in the sun in the beaches in the south or ski down the slopes of the icy cold mountains in the north. However the county is very small, only a distance of about 100 km from north to south and yet the extreme temperatures ensure that you can be sunbathing today and skiing in the extreme cold the next morning.
The country is full of exotic tropical plants similar to the ones found in Greece and you will also find alpine plants similar to the ones found in Switzerland. With over thousands of species and sub species, it is a botanist’s delight. There are over 22 species that are unique to this region and no found elsewhere. Montenegro boasts of 4 national parks. Cormorants nest in the swamps in the North and you can find the endangered curly pelican floating in its nest in the peat islands.
The National Park of Lovcen has over 2000 species of plants. If you care to, you could explore the mausoleum of the Montenegrin ruler and poet Petar II Petrovic Njegos. The imposing building has a grand 461 step stairway leading up to it and is considered sacred by all Montenegrins.
The National Park Biogradska is in the mountainous regions of Bjelasica in the central part of Montenegro. This 5400 acre park is surrounded by mountains which peak at over 2000 m that have 9 glaciers and a lowland lake called Lake Biograd. The virgin forests are home to over exotic plants and over 150 species of birds. The lake found in the park has three types of trout and plenty of marine life. The mountains have glaciers and the snow covered slopes are perfect for a testing your skills in skiing. There is a historically important place near this park – the railway bar Beograd which was witness to the battle that took place between the Turks on one side and the Montenegrins and Serbs on the other. Make sure you pack beachwear and winter clothing as well before you leave and make sure that the ADT Home Security system is in place at your home while you are enjoying the vacation.
