Why Are School Trips So Popular?
Some kids love going to school, whereas others dread it. Plenty of others fall somewhere in that middle ground as well, but there are some days where learning becomes a little more enjoyable for everyone.
We're talking about school trips, of course - the days when children arrive at their classroom at the appointed time, and then pile onto a coach and head off to a destination chosen for its relevance to a particular subject. It provides a different way to teach children about all manner of things, and a way in which they can engage with the topic in a more involved manner.
These trips also enable the kids to see other destinations they may never have visited before. For example for kids in and around the south east, school trips London are very popular. There are countless museums in the capital that are ideal for school visits, and the pupils can spend an enjoyable day looking round and learning about all kinds of different things. The trip is carefully planned and chosen to fit in with some aspect of the curriculum, and is thus built in to the overall learning programme.
School trips can work well when ...
... the children are learning foreign languages as well. For example, while school trips to London are ideal for a day out of the classroom, school tours to France are perfect for a longer time away from school and a more involved learning experience as well.
As you can imagine, when it comes to learning a foreign language, what better way could there be to do it than to actually visit the country where that language is spoken? For many school children this might be the first time they do this, so school tours to France are ideal for widening their horizons. They will also enable them to gain a greater understanding of the French language, and how people use it in daily life. This is a far cry from learning French in a classroom, because children cannot imagine how it is actually used in real life. Going to France and seeing and experiencing the language up close like this is the best way to enhance and advance their learning experience. It also offers a more enjoyable way to learn. Even those who are not keen on it will find they retain more information from this kind of experience than they would in a classroom.
So it seems that school trips are always going to be here, as they provide an essential and enjoyable way to learn for many pupils. Whether it is a trip in this country or a trip abroad, there is no doubt that the lessons learned are well worth the effort that goes into a successful school trip.
