Since last week's post was all about earning passive income with affiliate marketing, I figured it would make sense to talk about how to be a better affiliate marketer. No matter what niche you are in, these tips will apply to you.

With that taken care of, here are 4 different things you should know to improve your success as an affiliate marketer.

Step #1 For How To Become A Better Affiliate Marketer: Picking The Right Product

In order to make sure the products you're promoting are “right”, there are a few basic questions you can ask yourself:

1. Is the market itself profitable?

The best way to determine this is to look at how many different types of products people are ACTIVELY buying.

Two types of products you can use to gauge popularity of a niche are books and magazines.

However, you should look into what specific products people are buying and how much they are selling for.

... make 100% commissions with every product, you need to make sure your market has enough mid- and high-ticket products to promote as an affiliate.

2. Is the niche you want to promote something you are passionate about?

While this isn't mandatory, it does help.

A lot of affiliates generate income by creating content and placing links within that content, which are affiliate links that earn money.

Since you'll have to create a regular supply of income to place on your blogs, submit to article directories, and maybe even e-mails to send to your e-mail lists - being passionate about your topic will make doing so a lot less of a chore.

3. Does your market have a specific problem (or problems) that can be solved by a product that offers an affiliate program?

In marketing, obviously the more problems that exist, the more demand there is for a solution.

If there'r no immediate need for a product you're promoting, you might have a harder time converting traffic into buyers.

Step #2 For How To Become A Better Affiliate Marketer: Regularly Educating Yourself

Don't worry...

You don't need to spending every spare minute with your nose buried in a book, web page, or video tutorial.

However, it's important to always stay on top of things.

As an affiliate marketer, there are two ways you can do so:

1. Stay on top of the latest marketing trends, tools and resources.

The online world is constantly changing. More efficient strategies are found, old ones become less effective, and some even become obsolete.

To combat this, your best bet is to stay educated about what's working NOW.

2. You can continually learn more about the market(s) you're involved in.

One of the best way to spot trends in your niche and know what your prospects are reading a buying, is trade journals.

Trade journals, along with mainstream magazines, are a goldmine of information.

They give you content ideas...

They shed light on CURRENT trends that might affect future purchases...

Plus, many contain ads that will give you some insight about what your market is buying.

(If you have a regular subscription to a trade journal or magazine, always take note of any ads that run repeatedly. Ad space in magazines is pretty expensive, and any ads that are repeated and likely to be winners!)

Step #3 For How To Become A Better Affiliate Marketer: Stay Disciplined

We somewhat covered this already...

But, the area you'll likely need to stay disciplined in this most, is your marketing and content creation.

If you hate writing, doing audio interviews, or are too camera shy to create your content, it might be hard to motivate yourself to do so.

In the end, however, staying disciplined and being consistent with your content and marketing is the only way to guarantee positive results.

On the marketing side of things, not continually promoting products and/or your website is a surefire way to halt progress. If nobody knows you exist, nobody can buy from you (or through you)!

On the content side of thing, search engines put a lot more value of sites that produce regular content. This is so their customers (users searching through their platform) get the best user experience possible.

Step #4 For How To Become A Better Affiliate Marketer: Track EVERYTHING

This isn't a rough as it sounds...

Tracking your stuff could be as simple as:

- monitoring your web analytics to know where your traffic is coming from, etc.
- using tracking links to see what links are getting clicked the most
- what paid traffic sources are giving the best profit
- etc...

Tracking your results allows you to tweak your approach and, in the long-run, make money more efficiently!
