An LED mini lightbar is an economical solution for emergency lighting with all the necessary features. A variety of designs have been used in recent times to make the mini bars even more effective and efficient than they already are. The focus is mostly on the compactness of the equipment, to make sure that they are small and yet deliver high performance in terms of emitting a powerful flashy light whenever required. Mini bars perform different functions, while mounted on different vehicles during emergency missions. Sometimes the flashy lighting is to alert motorists around of a high speed emergency vehicle. Sometimes, it is a warning signal sent across to distant patrol cars. In some scenarios, the lighting is used for traffic redirection as well, which is the case in special bar lights, with built in traffic advisor panels that can display giant arrows.

The LED mini lightbar usually comprises of 3 to 4 segments, each with arrays of LEDs. 1 Watt or 4 Watt LEDs are most commonly used, which depends on the design. Next generation LEDs are bright and brilliant and can provide highly intense lighting. Some ...
... mini bars have more than a 100, 3 or 5mm LEDs stacked up end to end to create a really bright light head. A mini bar with different LED modules can provide a variety of flashing patterns with lights in different segments glowing cyclically, randomly, sequentially or alternatively. What adds to the variety is when the LEDs in one segment are of a different colour compared to that in another segment. In some cases, Fresnel inner domes of different colours are used to create the illusion of lighting of a different colour.

Another design commonly adopted in an LED mini lightbar is when LED strobe heads are used for the lighting. Pairs of strobes are covered with domes for bright intense lighting without really consuming too much energy. These individual light heads can easily be connected or configured with other similar pieces of equipment when a sufficiently bright warning signal is needed. Conical and linear modules are both used for mini bars too. It is a distinction that varies from one manufacturer to another. Similarly, mini bars come with permanent and temporary mounting versions. Flush mount, flange mount and magnet mounting options are commonly adopted depending upon the preferences of the users.

Swivel bracket and suction cup mounting combination as well as self-levelling, height adjustable brackets are provided with an LED mini lightbar. Some light bars make use of polycarbonate domes for colouring the light as well as for encapsulation. The SAE, Class 1 rated mini bars also have a rugged base of aluminium or polycarbonate for moisture resistance and structural rigidity. Road tested, shatter resistant mini bars also comprise of multiple beacons or corner strobes. With more than a dozen built in flash patterns which can be operated without an external flasher, these mini bars prove to be quite handy, considering they rarely cost more than $200 and come with a hassle free 2 or 5 year warranty.
