By 2020, Malaysia’s target for rubber productivity is to hit 1.8 tonnes per ha per year, with total production of about 1.8 million tonnes, planted on an area of 1.2 million ha and a tappable area of one million ha.

Rubber and rubber products accounted for approximately 2.41% of the country’s total GDP in 2010. During 2010, the GDP of rubber rose by 99.4% to RM10.6 billion, while GDP of rubber products rose by 37.5% to RM7.79 billion.
Of the total export earnings of RM33.7bil in 2010, rubber product exports contributed RM12.3bil while raw rubber, other rubber, and heveawood products provided RM9.5bil, RM4.3bil, and RM7.6bil respectively.

Malaysian Rubber Bureau reported that the production of rubber in the next five years is most likely to boost since the cultivators inside the eastern component of Malaysia has enlarged their growing acreage. What's more, the cost enhance in rubber sheet has stimulated the tapping manufacturing. This will stimulate the production of silicone sheet.

The focus on rubber under the Economic Transformation Programme (ETP) holds great significance as it will restore Malaysia’s position as a major producer and strengthen its competitive exporter status in the global market.
