It is a well known fact that Aloe Vera is an herbal medicine. It is also a well known moisturizer, gel and a dietary supplement. However, not many people know that it is now being used to treat cancer as well. Aloe Vera affects cancer cells by fortifying the immune system, causing suicide of cancer cells and by enhancing the effect of chemotherapy drugs on cancer cells. Most importantly, the Aloe leaf slows down the growth of tumors in the body. Though, it is not yet scientifically proven that Aloe Vera can treat cancer, it has shown promising results.

Aloe Vera contains IL-2 chemical of the cytokine group which halts the cancer tumor. Macrophage is known to kill cancer cells. Research has shown that secrets of Aloe Vera contain macrophage. The aloe leaf also contains hydroxianthraquinone which initiates apoptosis or cell suicide. It works best with cyclophospharmide and 5 fluorouracil supplements. It balances ...
... the alkalinity and the acidity of the body, achieving Ph balance.

The aloe leaf possesses vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B9, C and E. It also includes other important nutrients like probiotics and selenium. Hence, even if one is not taking Aloe for cancer; it is a healthy supplement in general. Apart from treating cancer, the other benefits of Aloe Vera are as follows: It lowers cholesterol levels, smoothens the flow of blood, cures arthritis, reduces stress, prevents kidney stone, alkalizes the body, cures ulcers and digestive disorders, increases the nutrient levels in the body, reduces constipation, stabilizes blood sugar levels, increases physical endurance and hydrates the skin.

The gel in the Aloe leaf contains water, minerals, amino acids, vitamins, active plant compounds, enzymes, triterpenes, glyconutrients, glycoproteins, polysaccharides, acemannan, polymannans, phenolic glycosides and dihydrocoumarins which together form Aloe Vera gel. The Aloe Vera gel is a thin, clear jelly like substance which has to be retrieved from the leaf. However, it is very sour in taste and it is not possible to consume raw. One could either mix it up with vegetables or add it in a smoothie. If consuming Aloe Vera for the first time, it is recommended to start with small amounts first and gradually increase the proportion. However, if suffering from cancer, it is advisable to drink Aloe Vera juice or consume Aloe Vera supplements. Apart from internal injuries, it is also used to cure external injuries. It is also used as decoration and ornaments by a lot of people.

The aloe leaf belongs to the angiosperm category of plants and is a monocotyledon. It is grown in desert regions and most commonly found in North Africa. It stores water in its enlarged fleshy leaves, stems and roots which allows them to survive in the arid regions. The most effective extract of the aloe is acemannan. The acemannan cures all kinds of diseases viz antiviral, antifungal and antibacterial. Other important compounds are mannans, anthraquinnoes, lectins etc.

Though, cancer benefits of aloe leaf have not yet been proven, it cannot be denied that it has many other health benefits.
