An Oil Test Lab Is A Valuable Asset In Properly Caring For Sophisticated Machines

There are many industries across the globe whose productivity depends on the use of very sophisticated machinery, and part of the routine maintenance for this machinery involves the use of an oil test lab. Oil acts as the life's blood of most mechanical equipment, meaning that those machines simply would not operate without it, so it is very important for the people responsible for those machines to continuously monitor the conditions of such fluids.
One of oil's number one uses is to act as a lubricant for the rapidly moving parts that exist within most machines, to reduce the amount of friction that builds up between those moving parts and the great deal of wear it causes. Just like the machines they are used to lubricate, not all oils are made the same, and in order to ensure that the one currently in use in a machine was the right choice, a sample should be tested after a certain amount of use. If the fluid seems to be broken down or full of an excessive amount of metal debris from worn machine parts, it could mean that a higher grade of oil is needed.
Finding an excessive amount of metal debris could ...
... also mean a few other things that are generally an indicator that all is not well within the machine. As the functioning parts inside a machine are wearing out, they gradually break down into tiny metal particles that get flushed through the lubricant, so anytime a test discovers that there is more there than expected, it is a key indicator of excessive wear and tear. Other contaminants a tester could see in a sample, such as fuel or water, could indicate other problems with a machine that must be fixed, like broken gaskets.
Regularly testing samples of the oils used in a machine is remarkably helpful when a maintenance administrator needs to monitor what is happening inside that machine over extensive operation and where they need to look when a problem arises. For instance, if one of the tests comes back with a large volume of metal debris, they could probably find out what kind of metal it is and trace it back to the part that is wearing out and change that part before it causes damage to the rest of the machine.
Anyone in charge of taking care of the sophisticated machines found in most industrial facilities will always have an oil test lab on standby for when they need it. Doing so will give them a great advantage when it comes to keeping their machines in the best conditions and running as smoothly as the day they were manufactured.
