This forest is one of the most important attractions in the region which is evident from the fact that it has got the status of World Heritage Site from UNESCO. The forest got this status in 1999. While walking through the forest, you would come across evergreen laurel hardwood trees. These trees can be founded at an altitude that lies between 300 meters and 1600 meters. These trees are very temperature sensitive. While dining at traditional restaurants, you would come across laurel leaves in several dishes that are being served. Besides, these trees, you would come across variety of flowers while walking through the forest.

Color of these flowers would depend on the time of your visit. If you are enjoying holidays in Madeira in summers, you would come across blue agapanthus and in April, white mimosa can be soon. A walk through cobblestone path is another important activity in the region. Keep walking for 50 minutes on the cobblestone path and you would reach the forest. If you walk futher, you will reach Campo Futebol do National Stadium which is one of the most important football stadiums in the region.
