A police lightbar is one of the most useful types of emergency lighting equipment, which is widely used by cop cars, law enforcement personnel carriers as well as by highway patrol cars. Whether the vehicle is involved in a high speed car chase or whether it is trying to restrain the motorists from crossing speed limits on the highway, it is important that an effective mechanism of alerting or signalling should be used. Light bars provide that opportunity to vehicles. The modern light bars come as an unbelievable collage of features, designed to provide 100% reliability and performance in tough conditions.

A high quality police lightbar could be of any size. A mini bar is just 16 inches in length, 6 inches in width and around 2 inches in height. The full length light bar could be 60 inches in length and 12 and 3 inches in width and height respectively. The light bars are getting slimmer and slimmer with time and this adds to their reliability. Slimmer light bars are aerodynamically efficient, reduce drag resistance to the wind and also provide less trouble in terms of rattling sound. Slimmer, low profile ...
... bars are better suited for surface mounting on the roof of the vehicle. The light bars are also designed for uniform weight distribution which means, in spite of their long length, you don’t have to worry about dents or damage to the vehicle roof.

The reliability of a police lightbar extends to its chassis, which is usually a combination of aluminium and polycarbonate. A light bar could be in use all night and yet not get very hot, especially when LEDs are used. Gen III LEDs provide bright lighting with great energy efficiency, part of which stems from their lower heat wastage. The structural strength provided by aluminium also proves helpful to resist heavy duty handling. Professional heavy duty warranty or HDP is provided to cover damages to the light bars for an extended period, sometimes up to 5 years. It could include service, maintenance, repairs, spare parts and upgrades, depending upon the manufacturer. The warranty apart, the reliability of the light bar is because it usually comprises of multiple segments, LED modules or light heads.

Each light head or LED module comprises of varying number of LEDs whose wattage could be 1W, 2W, 3W or 4W. Higher rated LEDs are available but not used in most cases. The light head which comes with a UV resistant dome collects the light from the LEDs and the dome ensures that the whole light head is filled with the light. The wide angle optics helps in creating an aura of brightness and enhances the reach and spread of the lighting. Total internal reflector LEDs are used for ultra- brightness. A police lightbar might also have other options like flashing takedowns and alley lights along with the regular LED strobes. Switch boxes or illuminated switch panels are provided in some of the modern light bars for effective operation and utilisation of different functions.
