Proposal Of Uk Utility To Meet Water Requirements

A Utility company has drawn up plans for a £2.6 billion pipeline alongside the proposed HS2 high-speed rail line from London to Birmingham and beyond to bring water from the North to the parched South. The utility company believed that the project is an opportunity to help the parched South. The firm is planning to present their plan to the government next month for their consideration of the project. On 7 March, before the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee, the chief executive of United Utilities Steve Mogford will give further details to the government.
The project of the UK utility company is divided into two phases. In the first phase, the planning is to cover a 155-mile route from London to Birmingham which is expected to be completed in 2026. And in the second phase the HS2 the line will cover a total of 217 miles from Birmingham to Manchester, with a spur running from Birmingham to Leeds is scheduled to be finished by the year 2033.
According to the estimation of the UK utility company it would cost £7million a mile to install the 6 ft 6 in diameter pipe along the route of ...
... the HS2 rail project. It will cost £1.1 billion to run the pipe from London to Birmingham; From Birmingham to Leeds it will cost £875million and £656millionfrom Birmingham to Manchester. And this will supply up to 66 million gallons of water a day to the London area. In 2006 to transfer water from the North to the South the estimated cost was up to eight times more than developing the existing infrastructure, which was looked by The Environment Agency.
