Adhd (attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as Childhood hyperkinesis is a disorder mostly presented in kids at an early age. A person with ADHD is very inattentive, over-active, and impulsive. This is more diagnosed in boy than in girls.
An exact cause for ADHD has not been confirmed, but researchers agree that it may be inherited and it is developed in an early stage of growth. A person diagnosed with ADHD may suffer from depression, insomnia, tic disorders, slow learning process. On the other hand these ¨Symptoms¨ can be caused by other illness or disorders and not necessarily by ADHD.
Diagnosing this disorder it is very difficult since the Symptoms are confused with a normal ¨hyperactive¨ person behavior or it can be pointed just as disobedient ¨kid¨ or something similar. A child with ADHD can present one of the following groups of symptoms or a combination:
• Lack of attention (inattentiveness)
• Hyperactivity
• Impulsive behavior (impulsivity)
These are some of the symptoms in each group.
Inattentiveness: lack of attention to details, do not listen, distracted, ...
... do not follow instructions, loses schools tools, toy or any other thing, and can be very forgetful.
Hyperactivity: fidgets hands or feet, run or climbs in a bad time, can´t play quietly and talks excessively
Impulsive Behavior: answers before a question is finished, can’t wait for a long time and interrupts or intrudes on others.
The above mentioned symptoms are taken into account when diagnosing, since the patient must experience them for at least six months, and present 6 or more symptoms and some of them be experienced before the age of seven. Several tests must be performed so the diagnosis can be certain. In many cases kids who have a very bad behavior or are just simply very difficult are pointed or diagnosed with ADHD and vice versa, just because a bad diagnosis had been performed.
ADHD can also continue during the Adulthood or even develop during it, and if it is not treated patient will likely have a chaotic lifestyle, disorganized and have a tendency to fall into non-prescribed drugs and alcohol. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder must be treated with the right medication or a combination of medicines, along with a psychological therapy and family support, so this can be more easygoing for those who have it and their lifestyle can be improved.
