There are a variety of lights used by emergency vehicles to solve different purposes. These vehicles need reliable lighting not just for bright illumination but also for alerting other motorists or cautioning potential interceptor vehicles. In other words, the emergency lighting equipment is useful to provide bright lighting, a powerful warning signal as well as for alerting other motorists on the road to a potential crisis. There are quite a few options which vary in terms of energy consumption, mounting flexibility, lighting effectiveness and add-on features. Budget, requirement and the type of emergency vehicle will determine the equipment that you will eventually pick.

The first and most popular equipment used by emergency vehicles is the light bar. Its length varies from 16 to 72 inches although there are models which extend beyond the normal range. The height of the slimmer bars is less than an inch while the full-fledged light bars are around 2 – 3 inches high. The width too varies from 6 to 12 inches with some tolerance. The sleek, low profile, rugged bars are designed to outlast tough conditions ...
... and heavy duty handling. Light bars come with as many as 12 different LED modules and light heads in some cases to provide bright and all round lighting that is significantly penetrative. Mounting adjustability and flash pattern control also make light bars extremely useful to the cause of an emergency.

emergency vehicles also make use of dash and deck lights which are much more compact compared to light bars and are usually mounted internally, adjacent to the dash, headliner or close to the rear window. These lights are designed for stable mounting on all kinds of surfaces, whether it is metal or glass, flat or curved. Then there are the grille lights too, which can be mounted close to the front grille or above the bumper for narrow focussed beams whenever required. Mini bars perhaps fall in the same category as these lights as they are small, but are performance oriented with excellent resilience to tough conditions of usage as well as weather. There are special LED lights that can be mounted through 1 inch holes in composite tail, turn, brake or headlights to lend additional power to the beam. Wide angle domes can help to extend the reach of the beam on either axis, proving to be useful on darker crossroads and highways.

You would also come across LED strobes which are used by emergency vehicles. These strobes can be used both as standalone light heads as well as with light bars. Similarly, they can be used for steady burn lighting or for high output flash patterns. It is even possible to connect different LED strobes to make them flash in sync with each other for a more effective output. It is also possible to arrange strobes in a staggered fashion or make them rotate about an axis for greater visibility in all the directions. Strobes too can be used in pairs with diamond mirrors installed in between for optimum beam angle and coverage.
