Anytime you are responsible for a major operation involving various pieces of industrial machinery, you will have to rely on continuous monitoring to keep a close watch on the machinery's many functions. No matter if you are in charge of maintaining an entire assembly line of machines or just keeping a fleet of big rigs on the road, you will have to keep watch over many different parts and systems if you don't want anything suddenly going terribly wrong.

One of the many things that should be monitored at all times is the level of different fluids that are used within the machine, whether it happens to be oil, fuel, or some form of coolant. You have to observe fuel levels, because if they were allowed to run out in the middle of a work operation, you would have to suffer a chunk of downtime during the refuel. Running low on oil will eliminate a machine's ability to lubricate itself as it should, leading to a great deal of excessive wear and tear and eventually the complete and total failure of said machine.

Another serious piece of information that a machine operator might need is the pressure of a machine's ...
... internal fluids, because pressure can be a very dangerous thing, whether it's too high or too low. A large amount of pressure can cause moving parts to move more sluggishly or it can build up to the point that it bursts seals and gaskets and causes the fluids to leak out. Low pressure means that the machine isn't getting a decent supply of that fluid and is therefore not going to function as it should.

One of any machine's worst enemies is none other than extreme temperature, and the only way to make sure temperatures don't take a toll on your machine is to keep an eye on it. When a machine is operating at too high a temperature, something is wrong with the machine, and as long as the operator is aware of the temperature, they can decide to shut the machine down and begin searching for whatever the problem might be.

Continuous monitoring of the inner workings and conditions of a machine tell us much of what we need to know about how to operate and maintain that machine. It is the operator's responsibility to ensure that their machine is well maintained, so it is up to them to make sure systems are in place that keeps them up to date on the conditions of every machine.
