Website Redesign - Product Base Significantly Grows
I often receive push back from clients when I suggest a website redesign. Many fell that if they have a website already, even if it is several years old, it can just have a few updates and be good to go. However, it is important to understand that your website is your online store front. Consumers like “pretty and new things”. If a customer visits your site and it is clear that it is several years old (which is old for a website) they may be turned away from not only your website, but business and your product. There is no set time frame for a website redesign, but significant events that effect how the business operates or markets itself should always indicate the need for redesign.
If the market changes drastically or a new competitor enters the arena, a redesign should be considered. Your website should reflect the way you are run your business. It should be clean and easy to navigate as well as professional but aesthetically appeasing. Another time to consider a website redesign is when you company or product base significantly grows. One ...
... of the major mistakes many business owners make is to just keep adding onto their current website. It is acceptable to add a few new products or sections to your website over time, but you must be careful to add on sensibly. When a website is built or rebuilt, there is careful consideration to the layout of information. Adding too many new sections or products overtime can take away from the information layout. Without event realizing it, a web owner may make a website more confusing and less clearly navigable over time.
Ill often meet clients for the first time who want to invest in an internet marketing strategy. If they have a well built website there is no problem. However, if their site is several years old or in need of a redesign I often tell them they need to redo their website before they begin an internet marketing strategy. This is not because I’m trying to sell my website design services. It’s simply because I don’t want them to invest money to drive traffic to their website only to have the design of the website deter the user from moving on with their purchase.
Remember that a website represents a company. Just the look and feel of a website can instill a feeling of trust or distrust in the consumer.
