The career of a driving instructor is quite exciting and, at the same time, challenging as well. A driving instructor has the great advantage of firstly being able to have a life out of doors. He does not need to be cooped up in a box all day like most of the other people. He also has the freedom to decide whether he wishes to be his own boss, work with another or a group in a consortium or in a company where he needs to complete the task set for him. But, there are some prerequisites too. A driving instructor, on account of the nature of his job, has to be a very patient person. He will have all kinds of pupils. He will need to exercise caution at all times since he will be responsible for another’s actions on the road. In return he will draw great satisfaction when his pupils earn their driver’s license on cessation of the driving lessons.
If you want to become a driving instructor you have to first of all obtain an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) certification that is awarded and registered by the Driving Standards Agency ...
... once you pass the ADI. In order to be eligible for appearing for this test you need to be at least 21 years of age and should have held a full UK or EU car driving license for at least four of the preceding six years. During the last four years you must not have been disqualified from driving and you need to pass an advanced criminal record check. Once you complete the final part of the ADI examination you must apply for registration within 12 months.
In order to pass the ADI you may join one of the driving instructor courses available. The learning in these courses is in three sections. In the first part you will learn the theory of driving. The second section deals with your driving ability and after this part of your driving instructor training there will be a driving and eyesight test. The final section will be on your instructional ability. This has two parts. The first is for the quality of your instruction and the other deals with your ability to pass on your knowledge to your pupils. There are several of these courses in the UK and you will need to assess these before opting for one.
