What is Microgynon?

Microgynon is one of the most popular brands of combined contraceptive pills in the UK market. Though there are different types of contraceptive pills, namely, monophasic, biphasic, triphasic and multiphasic, Microgynon 30 belongs to the monophasic group. A basic feature of the monophasic contraceptive pills is that they need to be taken for 21 days at a stretch from the first day of your menstrual cycle, followed by a 7 day gap before you start with the next course. Medications belonging to this class contain two hormones, artificial oestrogen and progestogen, which are almost the same in terms of their chemical property with the hormones that are produced in the ovary. These artificial hormones override the natural hormonal cycle and keep you safe from the risks of unwanted pregnancy. In addition, many users who used to face problems like irregular or painful periods, have reported to experience significant improvement from these problems after using the Microgynon pill.

How to take Microgynon?

The recommended way of using Microgynon 30 pills is to start taking them ...
... from the first day of your menstrual cycle for the next 21 days without any gap. It is also important, according to experts, to take the daily pills around the same time every day. It has been opined that Microgynon acts most actively in your physical system if you take the pills every day around the same time. In case you forget to take a single dosage, make sure you take the pill within the next 6 hours from the scheduled time. If you start taking this pill in between your menstrual cycle, instead of the first day, then don’t forget to use an additional contraceptive method for a week. This time is required for activating the protective shield of the contraceptive pill you are using.

How does Microgynon work in your body?

A Microgynon 30 pill contains adequate proportion of artificial oestrogen and progestogen in the forms of ethinylestradiol and levonorgestrel. These two artificial hormones override the natural hormonal cycle in your body and mimic the action of natural hormones. They stop ovulation or release of egg in the ovary by making your reproductive mechanism believe that it has already occurred. These two artificial hormones are also responsible for thickening of cervical fluid at the neck of ovary and thinning of womb lining. Due to these two changes the chance of sperm entering the womb and fertilising an egg reduce considerably. Such protection is affirmed further as thinning of womb lining stop a fertilised egg to grow on the uterine wall by attaching itself with it.

The other advantages of Microgynon 30

The hormonal overriding caused by Microgynon 30 in your body, apart from saving you from unwanted pregnancy, also helps you to enjoy a more regulated and less troubled period. The artificial hormones released by the contraceptive pill make your period lighter and more regulated. If you are facing problems like painful, heavy and irregular period, then you may find Microgynon pills helpful. Some women have also expressed their satisfaction after using this pill as it has a minimal risk of weight gain.
