According to Harvard Medical School, there are five stages an individual goes through when it becomes clear that a change is necessary for personal or leadership growth and change. Those stages are precontemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, and maintenance (Harvard Health Publications, 2007).
Many people remain trapped in the contemplation stage of development. They know that a change needs to be made if goals are to be met, yet they remain inactive. The psychological community is all too familiar with this common form of self-sabotage. Everyone, at some point in their life, has allowed negativity to rob them of something important. Losses may have included a job, a relationship, grades, or even the personal peace and sense of well-being that make our time here worth living.

... to creep in and poison their chances at success, is finances. Many remain in dead-end end jobs, working too hard for too little money and no appreciation. It has been this way for so long, that many people almost seem content in their unhappiness. The first step to breaking this cycle is to take a long look at your life patterns and be honest with yourself.

Why then, are so many people stuck in a career and monetary rut? Success comes not only from knowing what to do, but knowing how to motivate yourself to do what is necessary. Motivating yourself to succeed is a matter of retraining your brain, and to learn and how to learn. We are entering a new era, where the need for learning, and continuing to train to think strategically, creatively, and reflectively- will become tantamount to success.. You are conditioned, by society, by parents, teachers, bosses, spouses, and many others, to not expect your dreams to come true. “Be realistic”, others will tell you; but the reality is that your dreams are attainable if you are willing to reach for them. A lack of belief in yourself and improper brain-based patterns may hold you back from many forms of success, including financial freedom.
What you are used to is your comfort zone. This is your brain’s version of homeostasis or internal balance. The brain will try to return you to a state of homeostasis when you veer away from your comfort zone. Your brain will track your patterns. It will try to take you back to what you are used to even if what you are used to is not what is best for you. In order to move forward, you must find a new ‘normal’ and train your brain to respond to it. You can teach your brain that your new comfort zone is confidence and financial success.
Some programs will teach you how to modify the behaviors that keep you spinning your wheels. What these programs lack however, is the insight into why the behaviors became habit in the first place. Modifying behavior alone is a temporary solution to your struggles. Until you discover and change the motivations for the behaviors that have kept you trapped in a state of dissatisfaction, you are at risk of returning to self-defeating behaviors.
Don’t settle for not knowing how to outperform your past successes, or being stuck in confusion, and information overload, that keeps you from seizing the Sweet Spot, in action and focus that will yield your greatest Results, and financial reward. Knowing what to do, at the right time, and applying skilled resources of attention- will be the new 21st century standard for leading and winning ahead of the curve.
Retrain your brain to reach for the kind of success and happiness you deserve. You do deserve it, your team or company deserve it. And finally there is a New Science that can shave years off your learning curve- saving you time, and money, as you accelerate your financial freedom, and contribution to the world.
