There Will Not Be Major Complications With Breast Implants

Breast implants have successfully been used in breast enhancement surgeries for many years. In this relatively simple procedure, silicone gel-filled or saline-filled implants are inserted under the breasts to enhance the size and volume of breast tissue. Any potential risk associated with the surgery is minimal, and choosing an experienced and qualified surgeon will help avoid any complications.
Numerous scientific studies over the years have shown that the implants used for breast enhancement are safe and effective medical devices. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized the use of silicone implants in breast enhancement procedures for women aged 22 and above, and also in breast reconstruction procedures for women of any age. FDA scientist Dr. William Maisel reaffirmed the agency's support of silicone breast implants safety, stating that “women should feel assured that the FDA continues to believe that currently marketed silicone breast implants are safe.”
Though breast enhancement ...
... s a relatively risk-free surgery, the procedure carries the general risks associated with any surgical implantation of a medical device. As with any procedure, side effects may include bruising, infection or scarring. After the surgery, the breast area may be swollen, but will dissipate in a few weeks. Infections are rare and can be treated with antibiotics. Usually any scars of a breast enhancement are inconspicuous and can be minimized with prior consultation with the surgeon.
The possible risks associated with breast enhancement include change in nipple sensation, capsular contracture and implant rupture, all of which are treatable. For some women who have undergone breast enhancement, the nipples may become oversensitive, undersensitive, or numb, but this is a temporary condition and will improve with time. Capsular contracture – which occurs when the scar around a breast implant tightens, causing the breast to become hard – is the most common complication. However, there are both surgical and non-surgical options available in successfully treating this occurrence. An implant rupture is unlikely as breast implants are tested regularly in strenuous conditions to ensure durability. However, even if a saline-filled implant ruptures, the salt water from the implant will be absorbed by the body and is thus harmless. If a silicone implant ruptures, the gel is usually contained inside the implant and does not cause complications. An MRI can confirm a suspected rupture, and a follow-up replacement procedure will minimize any risk. In addition, any concerns over breast implants and lactation are unfounded, as implants do not interfere with breastfeeding and are not harmful to children.
While breast implants have been proven as a medically safe option for enhancement, an experienced surgeon is the best guarantee for a successful outcome. Surgical professionals can evaluate pre-existing health conditions and assess breast implant risk factors. During your consultation, the surgeon can recommend the best implant enhancement options to ensure breast health. Optimal long term safety can then be achieved with post-operative and annual check-ups. Women can rest assured that there will not be any major complications with breast implants, and can achieve the natural and healthy breast enhancement results they desire.
