It has been common thought among us that the days of mining for gold and striking it rich are long gone. Then along comes a TV show about mining in Alaska and the rush is back on. It was very surprising to find out while interviewing Dennis Rider of www.thegoldhunter.com AKA The Gold Hunter that gold mining in Arizona is still alive and well. Dennis owns a couple of claims outside of Wickenburg AZ and his son has been working them for a while now. Two of the claims are in Weaver Creek at the base of Rich Hill in Yavapi county Arizona. This area ranks number one in gold and silver production in the state of Arizona with almost four million ounces of gold and silver produced. Nuggets the size of Irish potatoes were found on the side of Rich Hill giving the area its world famous name "the potato patch." This area is reported to have produced up to 2,000 ounces of gold per acre with the average size of gold from alluvial deposits of Weaver Creek described as the size of flaxseed.
