My mom has always ironed everything in the laundry basket. Jeans, pillowcases, my dad's handerkerchiefs, you name it and she ironed it. She loved that crisp look and the cottons in her day looked shabby and unkempt without ritual pressing. Which means, of course, that as a teenager, I ironed it all too. My Saturday morning routine meant slouching at the ironing board, with the radio for company, ironing my father's shirts and my brother's blue jeans.

Now I wear Scrubs and with today's cottons, I can say the heck with ironing! My Saturday mornings are now free of the ironing board drudgery.
