If you are a smoker, you know how frustrating it is when you cannot smoke anywhere. Even businesses that used to welcome smokers, such as bars, are shutting them out, forcing them to go outside in all types of weather so that they can enjoy a cigarette. And because everyone is terrified of lawyers and excessive lawsuits, businesses are complying. Even those that used to depend on smokers, such as bars, are going along with the program.

One thing that smoking does for people is to gratify the oral fixation that most people have. Smoking curbs your appetite. Instead of eating something that is not good for you when you are not hungry, you reach for a cigarette. This is why people smoke. Those who are in restaurants and bars, however, do not have this option. They can use an electronic cigarette, however, as this does not effect anyone else. The good thing about the e-cigarette is that they cannot say it causes a problem with second hand smoke. So as it does not affect anyone else, it is not a problem. Many people are finding it easy to use these products when they go out. Instead of reaching for a second piece of pie, or polishing off the leftovers on the table, you can use one of these products.

There is a lot of hue and cry over obesity in the United States today and obese people are starting to be looked upon as pariahs, just like smokers. One of the reasons for obesity is the fact that people stopped smoking. In the days when the majority of people smoked, the country did not have the obesity levels it has today. As smoking has become an increasingly anti-social habit, the obesity levels have risen. So have the instances of diabetes. Lung cancer has remained the same, despite the protection everyone has from second hand smoke. Obesity is just as dangerous as smoking, if not even more so.
