A driving instructor’s life is one of great devotion. The driving instructor has to be dedicated to the entire business of setting a raw learner through his paces, correcting the pupil each time with patience and always watching out for the unexpected. A driving instructor has to be disciplined, patient, persevering, focused and of course not only a perfect driver but also well versed in the art of communication. If you want to become a driving instructor you will need to be certified as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI). The ADI will have been tested and registered by the Driving Standards Agency. However, in order to be an ADI you will have to undergo one of the several driving instructor courses.
The driving instructor courses all provide driving instructor training so that you obtain the ADI qualification. Most of these courses are made in a way such that you can go about doing your own jobs and fit in the training ...
... accordingly. But, before you can join one of the driving instructor training courses you will have to be at least 21 years old and must have held a full UK or EU driving license for four of the last six years without any disqualifications during the last four years. Further, within 12 months of completion of the final part of the ADI examination you must apply for registration.
The driving instructor courses are so formulated that the driving instructor training is split in three sections. The first part is the testing on the theory of driving and the second part is a test of your driving ability. There is also a driving technique exam as well as an eyesight test. The third section pertains to a test of your instructional ability. There are several driving instructor training courses in the UK. Among these, several are franchised while others are independent driving instructor training companies. The time taken to complete this training depends entirely upon you. If you put in a lot of hard work you should be able to complete the ADI in three or four months though on an average one will take anything from six months to a year.
