Information Technology or IT is today’s one of the most promising careers. Basically, IT is the management of information with the use of computing and telecommunications. Therefore, if you are working in the IT sector it implies that your job involves the use of both computers and telecommunications for processing and storage of information. IT jobs could involve the installation of apps or the design of IT networks and databases. You can be engaged in the management of data or the engineering applications involved with computer hardware. Typically, your job may be in web/graphic designing, PC repair or maintenance, as an IT manager, in providing IT support, as a developer or a data analyst.
In order to prepare yourself for an IT job you will have to acquire a recognised qualification in IT or one of the related specialist subjects. In this respect a Master’s degree is apt for any individual that wishes to engage in the field of IT as a specialist. Some of the recognised qualifications include MCDST, Microsoft Windows and Cisco CCNA. If you are better ...
... in resolving problems you are probably better off in technical support. You may have skills in creating new software programs or in the identification of needs in a business situation. These tendencies will take you to different fields within IT such as software solutions or the job of a technical consultant or systems analyst and accordingly guide you in deciding the type of IT careers suited to your skills.
The path that you take for IT training will depend on the actual career that you wish to adopt. The base for a career will be a good GCSE grades (A-C) and A levels/A-S levels. Thereafter the training path will be a broad IT or CS (Computer Science) degree. This should be followed by certification courses with either Microsoft or Cisco which will help you in the acquisition of the latest technologies and prepare you for specialisation. This will impart a broad background and you must seek work placements within the period of training. While a degree in IT or Computer Science will take around four years you may take anything between 8 weeks to a year for acquiring additional qualifications or certifications.
