Giacomo Mattioli Announcing Maserati Kubang

Maserati makes modern vehicles that express the best elements of the grand touring tradition, offering an Italian alternative within key segments. With its current well defined line-up of six models, Maserati is carefully positioned and is capable to reflect and please the desires of its clients. Maserati closed 2011 in a very positive way: compared to the previous year, worldwide sales were up 10% in 2011. United States remains Maserati’s largest market with 2465 cars delivered to final clients in the past twelve months: an increase of 21% over 2010. North America is followed by China (which doubled its sales volume compared to last year), Italy, the UK, Germany, Japan, Australia, United Arab Emirates, Switzerland and Honk Kong. In Detroit Maserati was proud to release the Kubang sport luxury SUV concept in occasion of the 2012 North American International Auto Show. Approximately 50 years ago, Maserati expanded the boundaries of the original GT concept from two to four doors. The resulting Quattroporte is unquestionably the first modern super sedan. It was able to keep not only the brand’s core values of style and luxury, ...
... but it was also able to deliver a genuine performance thanks to components and design built from knowledge gained in competition. The Kubang represents a natural evolution and adjustment to the market needs: clients are seeking for vehicles that combine sportiness and luxury, with the capability of getting its passengers through all types of climates over a variety of surfaces on and off the road. The Kubang is a sport luxury vehicle destined to be first Maserati built in North America. According to Giacomo Mattioli, President of Ferrari Maserati Beverly Hills and Ferrari Maserati Silicon Valley, the Kubang concept proves the strength of the Maserati brand, now capable to compete in one of the most challenging segment of the automotive industry and enlarging its product range across the world. Even though entering a completely new segment, the Kubang still maintains the integrity of Maserati’s DNA. Even though the Kubang concept was officially introduced at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, the idea of a sport luxury SUV was not new to Maserati: as a matter of fact the Trident unveiled the first Kubang concept in 2003. The synergy Fiat-Chrysler offered Maserati the ideal catalyst to start designing and producing a sport luxury SUV. Giacomo Mattioli conveys that even though production will be in the United States, the Kubang will be unquestionably be a Maserati: all the components will be 100% representative of the brand’s core values of craftsmanship, performance, sportiness, elegance, luxury and glamour. The Kubang has been designed by the Maserati Style Center headed by Lorenzo Ramaciotti and its new generation high-tech proprietary engine has been developed by Paolo Martinelli (Head of Maserati Powertrain Development) in the Maserati headquarters in Modena. As a matter of fact, the entire production of the Maserati new engines with the new 8-speed automatic transmission will remain in Maranello and performed by Ferrari. Suspension, brakes, steering and electronics will be exclusively developed by Maserati engineers in Modena, Italy. According to Mr. Mattioli, the first Kubang will arrive in the US market in 2013.
