You can encounter, of course, both good and negative experiences when buying photo on canvas prints. Mainly because, as with many other products sold today, the market place is being flooded by cheap sellers selling inferior quality goods.

The best way to avoid having a negative experience is to arm yourself with a little knowledge first. The most important thing to remember is that not all canvas prints are identical. The finish of your print will vary drasticly from vendor to vendor and with the present economic climate, an increasing number of low cost, sub-standard print sellers are surfacing, so beware! This is making it increasingly more challenging for casual photographers (and even experienced photographers like myself) to know who to trust when planning to buy a photo on canvas print.

So how do you know that the supplier you decide on will do a good job?

From my experience, sticking to the below tips should help you find a genuine supplier who will provide you with a wonderful looking print that will last for many years.

1. First, look at the suppliers website for signs of quality.

Does ...
... it look professionally created?
Are thier contact details displayed?
Do they have customer feedback on their website?

These are often key factors in determining whether a supplier is professional, reliable and trustworthy.

2. Check which equipment and methods will be used to make your canvas print. When looking for signs of good quality materials and workmanship, it would be useful for you to understand a few specifics about canvas prints. Here are a few things for you to look out for.

Frame quality: Beware of companies who use solid wood frames which are made in-house. A solid wood frame does not allow the canvas to be tightened again over time and the canvas will sag and lose its shape. Always opt for a 4-piece pine frame. These 4-piece frames should come with wooden/Plastic wedges which have been inserted into the inner corners of the frame enabling you to stretch the print as often as needed over time. It is important to remember when buying a print, that the kind of wood used and the structure of your frame is vital to its durability.

Canvas material: Always opt for a print which is produced using 100% cotton canvas. This both improves the look of the canvas and prevents discolouring. This material also gives your print a more eye-catching matte finish.

Archival Inks: What are archival inks? Archival inks are inks which are fade resistant for up to 100 years. Quite a few printers compromise quality by using other low cost varieties of ink. Always be sure that the company that you decide on uses archival inks. The very best range of archival ink based, large format printers available in the market at present would have to be the Epson Canon Ipf 8300/9100. If these printers are being used, you are guaranteed fantastic image quality.

Varnishing : A Varnished coating should preferably be applied to both prevent splitting and cracking on the edges of the canvas (where the canvas meets the frame) and also to enable you to easily keep your canvas clean by wiping it gently with a moist cloth. This coating also safeguards the print from ink fading as well as preventing scratches and scuffs.

Varnishing increases both the quality of the finish and the durability of the canvas. Always ensure that such a coating will be applied to your print.

If you are considering deciding to buy a photo on canvas print, keep in mind the points made in this guide to ensure that you receive a stunning, long-lasting canvas print that will last for several years to come.

One company worth mentioning when discussing Cheap photo on canvas transfers and Photo on canvas prints in general is Perfect Canvases. They specialize in taking photographs, editing them and transferring them to canvas. The lowest priced, highest quality service I have come across to date.
