Building An Effective Employee Motivation Program

Keeping employee motivation high should be a top concern of any company, whether big or small. Employees that are highly motivated deliver better results, both in terms of quantity and quality. And they deliver these results on time. These in turn lead to better net income for the company.

An effective reward and motivation system should be in place to keep staff motivation high and the results consistently impressive. In fact, the study “Incentives, Motivation and Workplace Performance: Research & Best Practices” by Harold D. Stolovitch, Richard E. Clark, and Steven J. Condly, found that incentive programs that are selected implemented, and monitored correctly improve individual performance by as much as 22 percent and team performance by as much as 44 percent.

A key factor in building an effective employee motivation program is effective communication. This is every bit as crucial during the preparation and launch phase of the motivation program as it is on each step of the way as the program continues. ... to the goals of their unit or department and of the company. Show them in concrete terms how they contribute to the company’s success and how you are all on the same team. Try group strategy discussions to drive this message home. Employees become more emotionally invested and engaged in the process if they are continuously able to get constructive feedback and are able to set new individual goals. Strive to create a culture that makes the staff feel that they are free to share their constructive criticisms and ideas.

A successful motivation and recognition program should be effectively communicated across the entire organization. Employees should know the objectives and ideas behind the program. And you should be able to let the staff know that the process is consistent, fair and transparent.

The program should be comprehensive and should be monitored consistently. It should also be aligned with the company’s mission and vision and with the goals of the existing reward programs.

Effective motivation programs position training as a way to empower the workforce to achieve their goals and enjoy the rewards. A number of companies have even created an entire corporate culture that places high importance on the training and education of their employees, giving them opportunities to further improve their work skills as well as other skills that may not be directly related to their jobs but can also help them enrich their lives.

An effective training program should have a way to deliver regular feedback to the employees, allow the participants in the reward program to set expectations, track their progress and achieve targets. For a number of companies, this is easier to do with a platform that includes training, feedback and reward.

There are some companies that further address employee motivation by finding ways to make the workplace better – not just functional but also quite comfortable and flexible that employees would find it easier and more enjoyable to work and might even actually look forward to going to the office.
