The East India Trading Company And The Benefits Of Castors
Have you ever thought how history would have unfolded had we had access to some of the technology that we have today? There are many examples of history that may have been different had they had even some of the smaller things we have access to now. Take Castors as an example. They may be small and relatively inconspicuous wheels that are used heavily in industry to transport goods and materials from one place to another but you would not believe how much difference they would have made to the world in the centuries gone by. The East Indian Trading Company could certainly have benefitted from them.
Wait a moment, you may be saying, how could small industrial wheels possibly have made an impact on the East India Trading company from its establishment in 1600 through its existence until 1st January 1874, when it was dissolved? Well, in a number of ways actually. The first way is essentially helping it to establish a foothold in its territories. Using trolleys with such wheels on would have helped them to build a whole range of administrative and trading buildings quickly and easily. This was required because trading in ...
... the Indian subcontinent was difficult without a base there. Furthermore, the East India Trading Company also established military and administrative functions in large areas of India. Ruling various locales would have been impossible without such organs of power in place. By helping in terms of moving materials, Castors would definitely have helped to establish colonies much sooner.
Castor trolleys would have also helped trading during that particular era. The East India Trading Company traded all sorts of items but particularly cotton, indigo dye, tea, saltpetre, opium and silk. Of course, the raw materials could be found inthe Asia region, most notably China and India, but it was moving them that posed a minor problem. Of course, most of the travel was done by sea but loading up the ship could take hours, if not days. Many men had to work long hours to keep the East India Trading Company up and running. However, if there had been trolleys, cages and other such transportation equipment available, it would have cut the job in half, the time taken to load the ship in half and made the whole process of trading more efficient.
There are numerous ways that Castors could have helped the East India Trading Company. Already hugely successful, it could have benefitted from them and become even more successful. Of course, there will be some that argue that occupation of large areas of India were not a good thing, regardless of the trade links that were forged as a result of it but that is a completely different story. With the help of the small and large castor series’ alike, trade and indeed governance of the region could have been established much sooner.
