With today's depressed real estate market, homeowners have to find better ideas for saving on home improvements. Forecasts in the real estate industry call for another year of slumping sales and then a slow recovery in the later part of 2009. If you are planning on improving your current house, flipping an investment property, or even building new construction, you must find more efficient methods to save on construction materials.

A great idea for saving money in the kitchen is using ready to assemble cabinets. These cabinets, referred to as RTA cabinets are just as good or in some cases better than assembled cabinets. While the big box stores do carry ready-to-assemble cabinets, because of storage/space constraints they will push you towards the name brand cabinets that they don't have to stock.

Quality RTA cabinets are actually better than the name brands. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of websites that sell ready-to-assemble cabinets, so make sure you shop at least a few of these sites. You will quickly find that prices vary greatly for the same exact cabinets and the better sites tend to be the ...
... direct importers of the RTA cabinets. Being the direct importer saves you money because it is taking out another middle man. Also, some of these cabinet sites are just buying from another site and then marketing their product in a different way and subsequently selling it to the consumer (changing the name and marking the price up doesn't change the quality or construction of the cabinet). So just remember to shop around when online and you will find the best prices for these inexpensive and quality cabinets.

So what else is good about an RTA cabinet? The big reason is always the price. The ready to assemble cabinets are usually about thirty to forty percent less than basic assembled cabinets. One question I had after seeing the price difference was: How difficult are these things to assemble? I found that it was not tricky at all. Even if you are only a novice DIY homeowner you can put one of these cabinets together. The directions call for only a screw driver, but the assembly. The next important feature about the RTA cabinet is the construction. Even though you are assembling these cabinets, the structure and frame are very solid. The cabinets I have in my kitchen are holding up granite and have not shown any strength issues in two years of heavy use. IN terms of quality, the fronts of the cabinets are solid wood and the sides are paneled wood. No particle board is used in the better RTA cabinets and that should be a feature you look for when comparing styles.

With house prices dropping, you need a way to increase your house's value and still save money. RTA cabinets can be the answer. The best RTA cabinets will be of solid construction, no particle board, and should be much lower in price than any cabinets offered by a local retailer.

So when you start to search, looking online is the best way to find a variety of cabinet prices. Be careful of web sites offering free shipping, there is no such thing. These sites are making that money up somewhere. Other than that, stop at a few RTA sites and you should be pleasantly surprised at the money you will be saving.
