Medically known as endodontic therapy, the root canal therapy is an essential part of cosmetic dentistry. When the tooth starts decaying or being damaged by bacteria or any other agents, a cosmetic dentist undertakes root canal treatment. During this process, an endodontist removes the pulp from the centre of the tooth and fills the pulp cavity.

The treatment will prevent the development of the painful infection in the pulp that may otherwise spread to other teeth. A root canal can also be done on the infected tooth to relieve the patient of toothache, to stop infection and to promote healing.

If you are suffering from any kind of tooth infection or sore teeth, you must consult an endodontist so that your teeth can also undergo the root canal treatment for complete relief.

Why root canal therapy is done?

The basic reason for this treatment is the infection of teeth. The infection can be the result of a tooth crack, cavity or injury which can be followed by swelling and pain since it also ...
... affects the nerves of teeth. A root canal therapy is the best way and solution to tooth decay. It not only saves your teeth but stops the spread of infection as well.

How the root canal procedure is done?

First, the dentist will numb your gums with a jelly like substance. When the tooth is numb, a local anesthetic is injected to the infected tooth to make the gums, teeth, tongue and the nearby skin, completely senseless. Sometimes, nitrous oxide gas is also used to reduce the pain.
The dentist separates the decayed tooth from other teeth with a small sheet of rubber on a metal frame. This rubber sheet is also used to stop the liquid and tooth chips from entering into your mouth and throat.
With the use of drill and other tools the pulp is being removed from the tooth and the emptied portion of the tooth and the gum line are being filled by the medicine, temporary filling materials and a final root canal filling.
After root canal, a permanent filling is needed this is called a crown. For crown implanting, the dentist removes the decay and makes an impression of the tooth. The technician will take the impression of the decayed tooth so that the crown perfectly matches the tooth to give it a natural look.
The decayed tooth can be temporarily fitted with the temporary crown until the permanent crown is cemented into place.

The whole procedure ends with a little numbness in the affected area after the effect of the anesthesia ends which can be lowered with medicines like ibuprofen, acetaminophen. In this way, with the help of root canal therapy you can get back your natural-looking tooth in a new and attractive shape. If you want this treatment for your affected or decayed tooth, you must visit your cosmetic dentist or orthodontist.
