The meaning of munsiyari is a place of snow. Munsiyari is a small hill station located at an elevation of about 2,200 meters in Pithoragarh district in Uttarakhand.Munsiyari is the base of Himalayan mountain range. Munsiyari is a picturesque valley and is fast becoming a tourist attraction. Munsiyari is the starting point of well known treks such as Khaliya peak, Pindari glacier, Milam glacier etc.

Panchachuli is the star attraction as they look like chimneys and are
amongst the gorgeous treasure trove of magnificent peaks of Nandadevi,
Nandakot, Rajarambha and mountains of Nepal Himalayas. The Virgin
environs of the valley offers breathe taking views of the surrounding
mountain ranges.
Khaliya trek is a beginner's delight. The trek offers panoramic views
of the greater Himalayan ranges. Towering peaks of Panchchuli,
Rajrambha, Hardeol, Nandadevi and Nandakot are clearly visible on this

Thamri Kund- It is Gentle Trek 5Kms from Hanuman temple (Betuli top) Motor road to Thamri Kund deep into the woods on rocky bridal path gives you a pleasant trekking experience. The Kund (natural small lake) with crystal clear surface frozen on edges surrounded and shadowed by the trunks of the alpine trees forms an enchanting view. a merigoround walk on the periphery of the lake against the cool breezes rezuvanate Body and soul. One can have oppurtunity to see “Monal” Uttarakhand State bird among other mountain birds in the vicinity.

Balanti Farm- Just 2 Kms trek from motor road inside the light forest and have walk and detail view of himalaya in to a beautiful Potatoo and apple farm landscapes inorder to grind your lunch efficientely inside your stomach. Lucky if u are in apple season.

Local Heritage Museum- A heritage Museum own and run by local Historian and writer Dr.Sher Singh pangtey exhibit the rich cultural heritage of johari people comprising their socio-economical history, chronology of their ancient,Art,Culture,People,trade, life style and Johari antiques. also a unique collection of historical write up, notes,scripts,pennys and utensils. The community is known to be Great “Shauka” of Johar valley.

Nanda Devi: The nearest spot in the Munsiyari town is Nanda devi .one can have a 2.5km walk or vehicle ride upto nanda devi, A beautiful ridge type green Land scape, on which Goddess Nanda Temple situated With four direction enchanting nature scenes. The land scape gives the feel of Himalayan high altitude medows(Bugyal) .a local fair on Nanda astami in the month of september is held here every year.

Messar Kund: The Messar kund is known for its mythological story is 3km away uphill from Munsiyari town between the forest of Oak,pine, and Rhododendron.there is a small natural lake and a grand view of Panchchuli,Rajrambha and chhiplakot peaks from here.

Darkot: (Darkot village) is on the road to Madkot 8 km from Munsyari, this village is rich for its hand wooven woolen items like Pashmina ,shawls, angoora,kaalins(Carpets), woolen sweaters etc and local Pulses,Rajma,kidney beans,himalyan spices etc.

Madkot Hot spring: Hot water spring near madkot on the banks of river Gori ganga is 22 km from Munsyari Town on the road to Jauljibi/Dharchula. This is a half day trip in Munsyari by Road.

Birthy fall: Birthy is 32 Kms before Munsiyari when coming from Thal to Munsiyari. This is a 125M High natural fall with huge discharge never dryes round the year. A tourist rest house is also there.

Khalia Top: The entire Himalayan chain containing Nanda Devi,Nanda Ghungti,Trishuli,Bankatia, Haerdeol, and Panchchuli range can be visualise from here. khalia Top is a Himalayan Bugyal(Meadow) the slope of meadow starts from 3350M to 3900M .This is suitable for trekkers and adventure Tourists. This is a 8 to 10 Km Trek from motor road one way, one can start in the morning and come back into the Hotel in the evening . in addition to this night camping facility may be availed on demand.

I am a travel writer. I visited Munsiyari last year. There were many Hotels in Munsiyari but I managed to stay at Bilju inn. It was a nice hotel and has a great view of Panchachuli peaks.
