Just how do you fully understand if you have been successful in teaching your student English? When I was home schooling, I was VERY troubled regarding literature analysis. It felt like we continually failed at reading comprehension as well as the review questions that were given. I knew that I wanted my boys to LOVE reading, however I was always anxious regarding literature analysis. Each year, I put in a great deal of time checking out Progeny Press, Learning Language Arts Through Literature, in addition to additional curriculum possibilities. Why was I failing? ... in my objective of teaching them to adore literature. "For fun" they went to the library to get some reading material. My son Alex read what seemed to be the complete Shakespeare cannon; my son Kevin read C. S. Lewis as well as Dostoevsky.

During the Spring of their Sophomore year, I experienced one other bit of proof hinting that I had, actually, prevailed. My younger son created a Jane Austen Club at college. That spring he arranged the "Pemberly Ball" at the college, complete with period costumes, decorations, and food of the time. It was a great accomplishment! My boys both ENJOY the Jane Austen books and movies, and they liked the Jane Austen influenced Pemberly Ball.

How should you teach a love for literature? All that is needed is to give them great books! I might have been stressed when they were in high school, yet I can in all honesty claim that I accomplished my objective: my children LOVE literature. Yippee! I win.
