It's common knowledge that the existence of life on earth would have been impossible without the presence of plants and trees. They have played a vital role in making it possible for life to survive on the earth for several thousand years. Early men used to rest on the tree trunks to protect themselves from the wild animals; birds build their beautiful nests on the trees; children love climbing and playing on the trees. And trees have oodles of other benefits; let us explore some of the most important benefits of trees.

Trees provide oxygen

We all know what the most important function of the trees is. They take in the carbohydrate from the surroundings and give out oxygen without which no life can survive on the earth. Interestingly, studies have revealed that a well-grown tree produces oxygen that can cover up the oxygen content required by upto 10 people in a year.

Prevent soil erosion

Trees hold the soil together with its roots and help to prevent soil erosion. Besides this, they also absorb the toxic chemicals and pollutants in the soil and make the land more fertile. They consume ...
... the animal wastes and use them as nutrients for their growth. Thus, they help in keeping the environment clean.

Noise pollution

Trees also play an important role in suppressing the noise in the surroundings. Just like the stone walls, the trees have the tendency to muffle the effect of noise. Trees planted in the busy areas help to abate the noise besides purifying the polluted air. It would be wise to plant them at a distance from one another in areas like freeways, industrial places and in highways.

Slowing down water runoff

Trees greatly reduce flooding and water runoffs. Studies have revealed that one thick-trunked tree can absorb up to 1000 gallons of water every year. They make use of the absorbed running water for their growth.

Carbondioxide consumption

Just like how human beings require oxygen to live, the trees require carbon dioxide to survive. Trees absorb the carbon dioxide and lock it in their leaves and roots and make their own food. They exhale the vital oxygen and contribute to the survival of life on earth. Moreover, by absorbing carbon dioxide, that is primarily responsible for the greenhouse effect, the trees also play a vital part in reducing the risk of greenhouse effect.

Shade and cool air

The presence of trees reduces the temperature and leads to cooler surroundings especially during the summer months. An interesting piece of information that recent studies have come up with is that, the trees can reduce the surrounding temperature to 10-12 degree Fahrenheit. Moreover, the shades of the trees nearby our homes make an ideal place to chit-chat with our near and dear ones.

Cleansing the air

Trees purify the air by trapping the airborne particles like dust and smoke and play an important role in reducing the temperature. They also absorb harmful gases like carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, and sulfur dioxide. This in turn helps to prevent respiratory problems.

Potential money multipliers

Real estate people depend on trees to increase the value of their land. It is estimated that the presence of trees can increase the value of the place by up to 15% year over year. Just buy a plot and enrich it with plants and see the property value creep up year over year.

In addition to the points mentioned above, there are oodles of other benefits. I would like to conclude by saying that the importance of trees to mankind is simply beyond belief. If you wish to plant saplings in your home, you can avail any of the reliable services such as the Verizon FiOS Deals and do a bit of research on the Internet to get a fair idea of which plant would be best for your climate and type of soil.
