Did you have fun at the office Christmas party? Was it a time for fun and joking? Did the usual people make the usual remarks? If you had a traditional party, you may have learned a thing or two about that guy from accounting and the way he carries on when he is drinking, but chances are that the employees saw it as nothing more than a free night or afternoon out, a free meal and some drinks and thought nothing more of it. It could have been different, though, if a company choose to use corporate entertaining of today that combines team building as well as other fun exercises to entertain as well as teach.

The office Christmas party does not just have to be some sort of drinking and eating event at all. Most people who work in corporate environments feel that they are just there to fill space and complain that they do not get the recognition that they want at work. When they learn to work as a team, they learn to share this sort of recognition, work together and do so for the sake of a common goal. This is far more effective, this type of thinking, than just having one person in charge of a department and having the worker bees in that department mindlessly answer to the department head.

If a company wants people to work for them and give it their all, they have to offer them more than just money as an incentive. Money is not the only incentive that drives people to work - if that was the case, people would all join the underworld because those jobs pay the best. Respect for the job is another factor that plays into why someone goes to work. They want to be able to respect themselves for what they do and hopefully, gain the respect of others. Pride in their work is another factor.

People want to feel as though they are part of something when they work. They want a pat on the back now and then as an accolade. There are many factors that fall into play when it comes to what motivates someone to work and companies are making a big mistake if they think that it is only about the money. Even people in the underworld, who are mostly motivated by easy money, still find those that rise up in their organizations in an effort to get noticed.

In order to notice employees, events can take place to do so. These events provide them with recognition for their achievements and a chance to unwind. They can be used as a way to get everyone on board with working together as a team so that everyone can share in the respect and recognition that the company receives. This makes for a far better workplace because it gives everyone a chance to be part of something positive.
