There was a lot of team building at the office Christmas party of an established corporation in the United Kingdom. Instead of just having a traditional sit down dinner with drinks, the corporation decided to hire an outside firm to organise the party and provide entertainment. Yes, there was food and drink, but the entertainment was not just a band that played old tunes, but events that encouraged those present to work together as a team.

A great deal of companies today are recognizing the value of teamwork amongst employees. Instead of a system where someone is in charge and the others work around them like worker bees, they are all getting a chance to give their input. This goes on in corporations throughout the country in board meetings and other meetings of workers who are encouraged to think outside the box and add their expertise to the company.

However, many employees feel uncomfortable doing this in a work setting. Why rock the boat, they say to themselves. After all, why should they go outside of the box when they are getting their wages? They may be afraid to speak out or just not feel motivated ...
... enough to do so. Some are afraid of being mocked by the others in the office for their views. However, the office Christmas party of the company really changed the way that employees did things because instead of just dancing and music, they created entertainment for them that involved team building.

The teams were all mixed. Instead of co-workers who normally hung around with one another choosing to be on the same teams, the teams were created in such a way that those in higher power in the company were combined with those who were at some of the lower rungs to create an atmosphere where everyone worked together to solve a problem and compete against the other team that was likewise comprised. This created a bond between those on the teams that allowed them to work together in ways that they might not do in the office. On top of that, the socially relaxed atmosphere allowed people present to let their hair down a bit and really provide valuable contributions. Everyone at the event was pleased by the outcome and they said that they want to do this again.

Any company can benefit from these training experiences that make a good use of entertainment and learning skills. Those who want to get the most out of their employees have to take the time to value their contributions to the company. By doing so, they send out a clear message that the employees are not merely cogs in the wheels but a valuable asset to the company and that their opinions matter. This is what most people want when they work for any sort of company - some sort of recognition for what they are doing and a chance to be of some use, rather than feeling as if they are just following orders. A firm that creates these events can be used by any company to get the same results that this other company received.
